Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is all set to take legal action against Durbar Rajshahi after their foreign players refused to show up at the match venue citing non-payment issues which forced them to play with only local players against Rangpur Riders in Mirpur on Sunday.
Since the start of the tournament, the Rajshahi franchise has been making headlines mostly for the wrong reasons such as players’ non-payment, not providing enough equipments to the players and signing some low calibre foreigners.
The BCB was mostly silent on Rajshahi’s actions but after yesterday’s episode the officials have seemingly reached their breaking point.
“We have to take legal action by any means now. The money has to be paid. Otherwise, BPL’s reputation will be ruined. The violation of contractual obligations like cheque dishonor and other issues will be addressed and we will file cases for all matters,” BCB’s media committee chairman Iftekhar Rahman Mithu told The Daily Star on Sunday.
“Cases will be filed as per the merit of the breaches. The board has given them enough chances. But they have crossed all limits.
“They were given a contract. There are breach of contract clauses. Until today, we didn’t take any action but now, we will take all the legal actions against them,” he concluded.
According to the tournament bylaws, a franchise must include a minimum of two overseas players in its playing XI.
